Macromedia's Flash technology is the premier solution for the delivery of vector-based graphics and animations. The Flash Player is available as both a Netscape Navigator plugin and an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, and it is built in to the latest versions of Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Windows 98, and America Online.
Use Macromedia Flash to create Flash movies. If you use Flash 3, use Aftershock to add scripting and plugin-version detection to your movie; see Inserting and editing Aftershock objects. If you use Flash 4, use the Publish command for the same purposes.
When you insert a Flash movie into a document, Dreamweaver uses both the OBJECT
tag (defined by Microsoft for ActiveX controls) and the EMBED
tag (defined by Netscape) to get the best results in all browsers. When you make changes in the Property inspector for the movie, Dreamweaver maps your entries to the appropriate parameters for both the OBJECT
and EMBED
tags.
Note: If you insert a movie using the Flash object, the movie can be viewed only with Flash Player 4, even if you used Flash 3 to create it. Flash Player 3 and earlier versions can't display movies inserted with the Flash object. Visitors to your page who use Flash Player 3 or earlier are prompted to upgrade to Flash Player 4.
To insert a Flash movie:
1 | In the Document window, place the insertion point where you want to insert the movie. |
2 | Click the Flash button in the Object palette. |
3 | In the dialog box that appears, select a Flash movie file. |
4 | In the Property inspector, enter the width and height of the movie in the W and H boxes. |
These are the only required properties. See Flash movie properties for more information on the other properties. | |
